Senior Innovation Technologist
Lead the innovation team in creating new and exciting foods for this iconic Australian Food Manufacturer.
This market leading Australian food manufacturer boasting some of the biggest brands in our national retail network, as well as producing private label and contract manufactured foods. Focused on delivering great tasting, innovative and high-quality products to consumers, they operate over multiple manufacturing sites nationally. Due to some recent changes, there is a new vacancy for Senior Innovation Technologist based in Melbourne’s south east.
The organisation is in an exciting growth phase which includes a strong focus on innovation and NPD to expand the current range and potential acquisitions.
The Senior Innovation Technologist will lead a small team responsible for all new product development, current recipes and specifications for this key manufacturing site.
As demands on high-quality convenience foods continues to increase, the Senior Innovation Technologist will lead the NPD stage gate process from feasibility study through to all stages of the product lifecycle. This will range from ideation and concept development with marketing and customer, through technical product development at lab/pilot/trial stages, to large scale manufacture, through to launch and ongoing renovation and review. You will also be responsible for identifying opportunities for product optimisation and assume responsibility for innovation budgets, including product costing to contribute to improving cost effectiveness.
In this end-to-end Innovation leadership role, you will need to have the ability to create and present to commercial teams and customers, as well as have the analytical and technical skills to develop products at desk level with full understanding of cost, volume and viability of any idea or concept. This will also require you to naturally be highly organised with extremely good eye for detail.
Through their collaborative style, expertise, energy and urgency, they will drive collaboration and accountability across all partnering functions and provide support to operations to ensure all new products or product improvements are delivered on time, and to specification.
To ensure long-term success of the team, the right leader will coach, educate and mentor the innovation function, as well as work closely with the manufacturing team on NPD products and processes to drive cultural improvement creating excitement and proactivity towards innovation.
Skills & Experience
- Tertiary Qualified in Food Science or related discipline
- Minimum of 3-years end-to-end Innovation Leadership experience ranging from desk and plant level, to partnering with Marketing and at customer level.
- Strong, influential, hands on, collaborative leader
- Demonstrated ability to create new innovative products, industrialise and commercialise.
